The Nelson County High School Performing Arts Department presents its 16th annual spring production, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. May 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and May 11 at 2 p.m. in the Nelson County High School auditorium.
This smash hit, full-length Broadway musical is the classic story of Belle(Haley Abell), a beautiful young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast (Nathan Brooks), who is really a young prince under a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. However, time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
This production is based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature and has been adapted into a Broadway musical, complete with technical wizardry, special effects, illusions and dazzling production numbers. It includes the same award-winning musical score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs, which did not appear in the film. A full cast of 50 students, a live orchestra, and a healthy dose of Disney magic bring the show to life in a spectacular fashion.
This classic story is filled with unforgettable characters, lavish sets and costumes, and dazzling production numbers including “Be Our Guest” and the beloved title song. Adults and children of all ages enjoy this timeless story full of romance, adventure, humor, magic, mystery and suspense.
