Characteristics in order of importance according to the survey of NCHS staff:

  1. Acts with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner, doing what is right and fair for all students, staff and community.
  2. Manages the school organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
  3. Develops and sustains a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  4. Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
  5. Promotes success of student learning by collaborating with families and community members and mobilizing community resources.
  6. Understands, responds to, and influences the role NCHS has to play in the community at large.

Characteristics in order of importance according to the survey of NCHS Parents, Students, and Community:

  1. Develops a school culture where students can and want to learn.
  2. Manages the school so that it has a safe and successful learning environment. Makes sure that the students, staff, equipment, and supplies are all available and ready to work.
  3. Maintains integrity and ethics. Always does what is right and fair for all students, staff, and the community.
  4. Helps everyone work together to achieve the mission of Nelson County High School.
  5. Makes sure that the school communicates with families and people in the community so the teachers and students have everything they need for students to learn.
  6. Understands, responds to, and influences the role NCHS has to play in the community at large.
